Skills, Test, Achievement, Recognition – This is what STARskate is all about!
STARskate 1 – 5
Skaters follow new Skate Canada guidelines that include group lessons in skills, freeskate, and dance. During weekly sessions, skaters work in small groups on similar skills and levels with coaches. As skaters master the skills at each level, they will be assessed regularly by their coach. There are 23 assessments in the STAR 1-5 program. Each assessment has a Skate Canada fee of $12, payable prior to the assessment. We eagerly anticipate the release of specially designed awards and incentives by Skate Canada.
STARskate 6 – 10 / Senior
Skaters who have achieved their Junior Bronze Freeskate (under previous guidelines) or met STAR 5 Freeskate requirements are ready for our Senior level. Skate Canada is developing criteria for STAR 6-10, currently covering Senior Bronze to Gold level tests. At this level, skaters begin to develop their own programs to music chosen with their coaches. They continue to develop jumps, spins, skills, dance, artistic expression, speed, and flexibility. Skaters may choose to compete at these levels or work towards test achievements. Testing takes place on High Test Days at our club or another club.
For detailed information on requirements at each level, please see the Overview of Senior Test Content on the next page or visit Skate Canada's website.
